Banksy

Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist based in the UK, his birth name, age and birthdate remains unknown, but it has been discovered that he originates from Bristol. Banksy is acknowledged as a graffiti artist and a political activist; his work sustains elements of dark humour with a graffiti stencilling type of style. His work has been featured across many walls, bridges and streets throughout the world. Banksy’s work can be seen to originate from Bristol’s underground scene consisting of collaborative artist and musicians discovered to be a graffiti gang named the ‘DryBreadzCrew’.

His Artwork frames political aspects within society with his carefully played images, often combined with slogans, highlighting political themes, sarcastic critiques of war, capitalism, hypocrisy and greed which is present amongst todays world. His notable style identifies images of rats, apes, policemen, members of the royal family and children. Some of the images protest to injustice of child labour being exploited by large companies and sometimes controversy among animal right activists. The statements of Banksy’s work holds execution in every piece he produces which is powerful and meaningful.

 

 

One of his well -known pieces was displayed far across the world on the west bank barrier between Israel and Palestine immediately capturing the medias attention in 2005, developing worldwide fame. The artwork that was once notified as vandalism now holds high value as an art piece. Although Banksy has made vandalism highly valuable his identity still goes unknown speculations evolve around a man named Robin Gunningham an artist born in Bristol in 1973. He moved to London in 200 a timeline that holds correlation to the progression of Banksy’s work.

By all means Banksy’s idea of an anonymous identity holds justice in a judgemental world. If Banksy didn’t have a secret identity imagine what scrutiny he may bare from his spoken worded art, which he now can express to the world through his own comfort.
